I disappeared for 10 months

August 11, 2026

I've had little to no online presence for the past 10 months. These months have been rough, okay, and a little good too. I thought I'll write them down, just for the record.

The Accident

In the last week of November 2025, I went on a motorcycle trip with my brother. We were gonna ride our motorcycles from Bangalore to Goa to attend Royal Enfield's annual event.

We started the trip but it was cut short. I won't go into details but while riding, I wiped out and fell off my motorcycle. I ended up breaking my left leg. I was wearing riding gear - armored jacket, pants, and gloves - so my broken leg was the only injury I sustained. In retrospect, I should have invested in armored shoes as well. If I had, maybe I would have prevented a broken leg but who can tell. My riding gear is beyond repair but it saved me from a lot of injuries.

I got surgery couple of days later. The post-surgery X-ray scared me a little. I spent the next 2-3 months recovering. Not being able to walk was brutal. The first couple of months, I used a walker to get around my home. I then graduated to elbow crutches was able to move around more. I even went to a music festival in Mumbai and got to see Linkin Park live!

After a few more weeks of elbow crutches, I was finally able to walk without assistance. I'm walking more and more now. I'm taking public transport and cabs/autos everywhere. I'm still not at 100%. I can't drive manual-transmission cars or ride on my motorcycle for a few more months, which sucks. I love driving and riding and I miss it.

My overall lack of focus and drive

Being bedridden and locked indoors took a lot out of me. I'm usually a house-mouse but not being able to occasionally go out, got to me. I lost my focus. I lost my drive to build and learning things. I sometimes got a burst of motivation and would work on something for a while. Then I would drop it and be lazy for sometime. Even now, I'm trying to build self-discipline but it's hard to be consistent. I'll be 36 this year and I haven't gotten close to my goals for this year and the foreseeable future.

No interest to be online

I completely got off X. I usually spend a lot of time there daily and I usually keep up with latest news and trends. I also post something occasionally. But these past 10 months, I barely got on X. I don't know what the latest news in tech is, what the latest AI benchmarks are, who picked a fight with whom, what the latest controversy is, etc.

Honestly, it has been refreshing. Not having to keep up with social media was great. Not being in the know is freeing and I feel kinda calm. I haven't watched news in years but maybe this X detox should also be a regular thing I'll do. I did (and I still am) spend my X time on Instagram. It's certainly not healthy to replace one shit-habit with another shit-habit. But I've found IG is not as "latest" as X is (at least my feed isn't). Most of the reels and posts there are chill ones about things I'm interested in.

I also haven't written anything on my blog. I kinda regret this one. Before my disappearance, I was doing a writing workshop, and was posting somewhat regularly. That lasted a few days before I got busy with other stuff and then the accident happened. I could have spent time during my recovery to be somewhat productive. But I didn't end up doing it, though I wanted to. I just focused on my day job, spent time with family, and explored other interests.

This article is like my return to writing here. I'm not setting any goals for how much I should publish, no target or daily word count to reach. For now.

I also haven't built anything substantial - couple of side projects for personal use. It's August already so I've to light a fire under my ass to finish and launch 1 or 2 projects before the year's over.

So yeah. That's how the past 10 months went. I've left out some things for privacy, but it hasn't been a great year so far. But I'm determined to turn things around. I want to hit my targets for at least some of my goals. Yes, I could have some more or maybe it's fine that I haven't done what I set out to do. I'm not beating myself up about it. What's done is done. It's time to salvage what's left of this year and do it with the best of my abilities.
