The 1 App I Can’t Live Without For Learning & Research
When it comes to learning, there is 1 app I can’t live without:
Perplexity
Since I got a year of Pro plan for free, it has become a valuable tool in my day-to-day.
And here’s how I use it and why it’s indispensable:
-
Fast Answers: When I’m stuck on a problem, I immediately go to Perplexity for answers. I haven’t used Google and StackOverflow in months. Instead, I have Perplexity go through them and give me the answers I want.
-
Research Mode is amazing. I use this mode often. I use it to learn how things work. Or for learning best practices in tech I’m a beginner in. I also use it to gather the best resources for learning stuff. I even use it to do competitive and market research for the things I’m building.
-
Labs is even more amazing. I use Labs to create comprehensive learning materials for different topics and concepts. I currently have Spaces (folders) for Go, Odin, Redis, and Linux. I have a custom system prompt for each space. When I give it a topic, it creates a personalised lesson with examples and exercises.
-
Extract knowledge from videos and podcasts. Each week, there are many podcast episodes with valuable information. I don’t have the time or energy to listen to them all and get useful knowledge out of it. So I have Perplexity extract every insight from an episode. Then it generates a markdown document with enough context for each insight.
I do recommend Perplexity but you can set up these systems using your favourite AI tool.
